Goat is one of the earliest domesticated animals. Domesticated goats date back to more than 10,000 years. Goat farming is a very profitable business and the livelihood of many people all over the world is associated with it. First off all decide in what kind of goat farming you are interested in, as there are four kinds of goat farming. Goats are raised for harvesting milk, which is later used in other products like buttermilk, cream, candy, cheese, yogurt and ghee ( clarified butterfat ) etc. Goat’s milk can also be used in cosmetic products like beauty creams, lotions, soaps and skin creams etc.

Another type of goat farming is done for the purpose of meat. Goat meat is very popular because of its taste and health reasons. Product like sausages, smoked meat cuts and salted meat can also be made from goat’s meat.

Goat farming is also done because of their fibre. For this reason, two breeds of goats are very popular that produce excellent fibre. These breeds are called angora goats and the cashmere goats, these produce mohair and cashmere wool respectively. People love their wool for their softness and during cold winter season they provide warmth. Other breeds that produce medium class wool include nigora and pygora.

People also raise goats for the reason of selling them as pets. In Muslim culture, goats are also used as a sacrificial animal.

So when you make this decision and select the purpose of goat farming, next step will be to buy relevant breed of goats, tools and machineries etc. You should also have enough space for goats and it should be covered.

A veterinarian is very important in this kind of a business. As the doctor will tell you what kind diet you  will be giving to the animals. Doctor will also visit and give regular check-up to the farm animals. He will also guide you for their breading etc. You should be look out for any disease that may affect the animals. Animals should be properly vaccinated. If you take good care of your animals it will only benefit you later on. So don’t be afraid to spend little in order to keep them safe and healthy.
